The Embassy of Honduras in Ottawa has re-opened their consular section. They are now able to provide Canadian document legalization.

For your documents to be recognized in Honduras, they will need to go through the authentication and legalization process, also commonly known as apostille. The authentication and legalization process involves two important steps. First, your documents will need to be authenticated at the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFATD). Next, they will be legalized by the Embassy of Honduras.

While this process is theoretically straightforward, in practice it can be confusing and complicated. There are two important tips to keep in mind:

• Mail in authentication at the Department of Foreign Affairs currently takes a minimum of 15 business days, plus 2 days for legalization at the Embassy of Honduras. If you are doing this yourself, plan accordingly.

• At the Embassy of Honduras, your documents will need to be accompanied by a Spanish translation. These translations will also need to be notarized. Alternatively, the Embassy of Honduras can provide you with the translation of your documents for an additional fee.
