In order to use your Health Canada Medical Device Licence in Mexico, you will need to have it authenticated and legalized, also known as apostille.
As Canada is not a signatory to the Hague Apostille Convention, it is not possible to obtain an apostille certificate on a Canadian document. To be recognized in a foreign country, Canadian documents must go through a process called authentication and legalization.
First, the authentication is completed at Global Affairs Canada in Ottawa. Once authenticated, the document may be legalized at the Embassy of Mexico. Both Global Affairs Canada and the Embassy of Mexico have specific requirements. Be sure you have met all the requirements prior to beginning the authentication and legalization process.
If you are on a deadline to have your Medical Device Licence authenticated and legalized, you should know that the process can take up to six weeks if done by mail.
