Planning your destination wedding in Cuba – Authentication and legalization of your documents

If you have decided to have a destination wedding in Cuba, you are planning the countless details involved in a destination wedding. One of the many details that will be crucial to the success of your destination wedding will be to determine exactly what documentation is required from the couple.

Documents often required for marriage abroad:

We suggest that you confirm your document requirements with your wedding planner, as well as the Embassy of Cuba well in advance.

For your documents to be accepted in Cuba, they will need to go through the authentication and legalization process. The authentication and legalization process for marriage in Cuba involves these steps:

  1. Translate your documents with a certified translator. In Canada, that means a translator accredited with the provincial or federal association. Be sure to check the authentication authorities rules about translations as well.
  2. Notarize the original translations with a recognized Notary Public.
  3. Have the documents “authenticated” by the appropriate government authority in the correct jurisdiction in the country of origin.
  4. Submit the documents for “legalization” to the Embassy or consulate of Cuba.
