Yes, we can apostille your Criminal Record Check for use in Ecuador. Canada is a signatory to The Hague Apostille Convention and so is Ecuador. Therefore, once your criminal record check has been apostilled, it will be ready to use in Ecuador.
There are two types of Criminal Record Checks that are issued in Canada. One is issued by the local Police Station and is based solely on your name and date of birth. The second type is issued by the RCMP Headquarters and includes fingerprints. If you need a Criminal Record Check for residency or retirement purposes, you will need the RCMP Certified Criminal Record Check with fingerprints.

Note that in Canada, the process to have documents certified for use in a foreign country is technically called "document authentication and legalization". So if you have been told that you need to "attest" your Canadian documents, what you actually need to do is authenticate and legalize your documents. Our friendly staff can answer any questions you have about the Canadian authentication and legalization (attestation) process.

If you are attesting your own documents at the Embassy or Consulate of Egypt by mail, the entire process may take up to several weeks. Attesting a Canadian document involves authenticating the document at the appropriate government office in Canada (Global Affairs Canada or the provincial office that holds jurisdiction over your documents) and then legalizing the document with the Embassy or Consulate of Egypt.
Global Affairs Canada takes up to 70 business days (as of Jan. 2024) to apostille documents. The provincial apostille offices take from 1-15 business days.
After authentication, the documents need to be submitted to the Embassy or Consulate of Egypt for legalization. The Embassy/Consulate typically legalizes documents shortly after they arrive and usually within 5 business days.
Important - if you make an error in how you prepare your documents for processing they will likely be rejected, forcing you to re-start the attestation process from the beginning. For example, Egypt only accepts original documents.

Yes, there are special requirements for the attestation of documents at the Embassy of Egypt. First, you should note that the attestation process in Canada is called document authentication and legalization, or apostille. Attestation is a term used in some foreign countries to describe a similar process of document verification. So, when we use the term attestation, we are referring to the Canadian authentication and legalization process.
These special requirements differ depending on the type of document you need attested:
- The Embassy of Egypt will not legalize (attest) passport or I.D. copies.
- The Embassy of Egypt requires that commercial documents are originals and are certified by a Chamber of Commerce.
- Educational documents must go through an extra step of certification at the Egyptian Cultural Bureau before they can go to the Embassy of Egypt for legalization.
- The Embassy of Egypt will only accept original documents. They do not accept certified copies, even if notarized.
At IDC, we constantly track the changing requirements set by the Embassy of Egypt and the authentication/apostille offices across Canada. If you are processing your own documents, we strongly recommend confirming the specific requirements that apply to your documents before you start. If you choose us to process your documents you can relax knowing that our experts will ensure that the common mistakes and pitfalls that increase the time and cost of processing are avoided, while saving you valuable processing time. Why take a risk that your documents may be delayed or rejected? Contact us today to discuss your document attestation needs and have your questions answered.
