Global Affairs Canada offers an Ottawa based service for the apostille of Canadian documents. This service makes it possible for your documents to be personally submitted in Ottawa instead of being mailed. When submitted by mail, it may take longer for Global Affairs Canada to receive and then apostille your documents.
What is document apostille?
The apostille process is an official system in place to confirm the authenticity of a Canadian document, so that it will be officially recognized in other apostille signatory countries. Any country that has signed the Hague Apostille Convention, including Canada, will issue apostille certificates and recognize apostille certificates issued by other countries.
If the country where you are headed is not a signatory to the Hague Apostille Convention, your documents will require an additional step called document legalization. Document legalization is completed at the embassy or consulate of the destination country.
What is the the role of Global Affairs Canada?
Global Affairs Canada is one of the apostille authorities in Canada. Global Affairs Canada is responsible for document apostilles for documents that originate from the Government of Canada and the provinces of Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, the Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Prince Edward Island, and Yukon.
What if you are outside of Canada?
Global Affairs Canada recommends that if you are unable to attend their office in person, you can either mail in your documents, or hire a private service provider, such as an apostille service. As the leading document apostille service in Ottawa, we attend Global Affairs Canada daily.
