You can get an apostille on your Canadian documents through one of the apostille offices in Canada. These apostille offices only take documents issued from specific areas, as outlined below.
- Global Affairs Canada – is responsible for issuing apostilles for Canadian documents originating from the Government of Canada and the provinces of Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, the Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Prince Edward Island, and Yukon.
- Provincial Apostille offices – in the provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Saskatchewan, and Quebec, are responsible for issuing apostilles for documents that originate from (or are notarized in) their jurisdiction.
If your destination country is not a apostille country, the documents will require diplomatic legalization. Each diplomatic mission has it’s own requirements and timelines.
