When asked to get an “apostille” or “attestation” on your Canadian Pilot’s Licence, you will need to go through a process to obtain the appropriate stamps and signatures on the licence so it will be accepted abroad.

The term apostille refers to the Hague Apostille Convention. Canada is now a signatory to the Hague Apostille Convention, so we can now issue apostille certificates in Canada. The term attestation is typically used in the middle east and refers to a process equivalent to an apostille.

If your document is destined for an apostille signatory country, it will require notarization and then apostille at the appropriate apostille office in Canada. If your document is destined for a non-apostille country, it will need notarization, authentication, and then legalization.
